Sunday Stroll in the Park

On Sunday June 3rd the Portsmouth Celebrated Seniors by hosting a Sunday Stroll in the Park. We welcomed residents and family members, as well as depositors, people from the neighbourhood and the community to come and celebrate active living. We kicked off our walk through Swindon Oaks Park at 1:30 and each participant was given a lanyard that said “Portsmouth celebrates seniors” which they wore proudly for the rest of the day. Inside the building, we had a silent auction, a table set up with brochures, tours and a booth for the Arthritis Society’s Joints in Motion program.
After the walk wrapped up, we started up the barbecue! Guests had their choice of a smokie or a hamburger with condiments, potato chips, a pickle, a cold or warm beverage as well as an ice cream treat. We had an accordion player (Len Hunchak) playing for the duration of the barbecue which was a nice treat. After we had all enjoyed a bbq plate, we gathered inside to call the silent auction winners. We had a few residents, a caregiver, a neighbour/family member of a resident, and a staff member that won. It was a great afternoon!
